BetDevil provides the user with a wealth of Ratings Calculations.
BetDevil uses Professor Elo's Rateform method as described in his book 'The Rating Of Chessplayers', and from the 'Punters Revenge' by Tony Drapkin and Richard Forsyth. Each team has a Rateform rating which can increase/decrease over the course of the season, providing an insight into the form of the team. The Rateform calculation takes into account the quality of the opposition each side has played in games preceding the latest one.
The basis for the calculation is as follows
Each team starts the season with 1000 points. For each league match, the contribution of home and away team points to the kitty will be, respectively, 7% and 5% of their totals. So for each match played the points allocation is determined by the result. The team points totals are used as a guide to form.
The Match Rateform rating is calculated as follows, home team points minus the away team points plus 100 points for home advantage gives a 'points difference' which is used to rate 1X2 forecasts. The more positive the Match Rateform Rating, the greater the chance of a home win. The more negative the Match Rateform Rating, the greater the chance of an away win. Equally rated teams provide a rating close to 0 and thus can be used as an indicator of a draw.
The Rateform Trend Analysis Graph provides an excellent indicator of the relevant strengths and weaknesses of both the home and away team. The Rateform Graph provides a clear picture of a teams progress over the course of the season and recent form, charting both positive and negative trends. The above graph plots the home and away teams rateform values.
Each Team is assigned a Recent Form rating, Recent Form is calculated on the last 6 league matches for each team. The calculation assigns variable points for matches won/drawn at home or away and takes into account winning or losing margins.
The Match Recent Form is calculated as follows, home team points minus the away team points gives a 'points difference'. The points difference can highlight inform or out-of-form teams. The more positive the Match Recent Form Rating indicates that the home team has better recent form than the away team. The more negative the Match Recent Form Rating indicates that the away team has better recent form than the home team.
The Recent Form Trend Analysis Graph provides an excellent indicator of the recent forms of both the home and away team. The Recent Form Graph provides a clear picture of a team's recent progress based on their last 6 matches, charting both positive and negative recent form trends.
Each Team is assigned a League Form rating, League Form is calculated on all league matches played for each team. The calculation assigns variable points for matches won/drawn at home or away and takes into account winning or losing margins.
The Match League Form is calculated as follows, home team points minus the away team points gives a 'points difference'. The points difference can highlight top v bottom league encounters etc. The more positive the Match League Form Rating indicates that the match is a top versus bottom league encounter. The more negative the Match League Form Rating indicates that the match is a bottom versus top league encounter.
The League Form Trend Analysis Graph provides an excellent indicator of the league/season forms of both the home and away team. The League Form Graph provides a clear picture of a team's league progress over the course of the season, charting both positive and negative trends.
Combo Form or League Recent Form
The Combo Form or League Recent Form is a combination of Match League Form and Match Recent Form. Thus the Combo Rating provides an excellent indicator of the outcome of a match based on strong performing and inform league teams playing weaker teams. The more positive the Combo Rating, the greater the chance of a home win. The more negative the Combo Rating, the greater the chance of an away win. Equally rated teams provide a rating close to 0 and thus can be used as an indicator of a draw.
